Supported Employment
This program helps adults with disabilities obtain jobs and maintain their jobs. The Supported Employment staff consists of two employment consultants who look at the student’s personal strengths and interests and find jobs in the community that match those strengths. With creative use of supports and technology tailored to the needs of each individual and workplace, students with disabilities work successfully in the community and have the opportunity and support to advance to other positions within that career. If a student needs training for a new job, the employment consultants learn the job and then train the student as needed unless the employer prefers that his/her staff provide the training.
This program benefits employers by screening prospective employees and providing on-site training designed to insure an employer's job expectations.
The Supported Employment program (at no expense to the student or employer) helps business and industry by: • reducing turnover and absenteeism • offering long-term follow-up support and retraining • accessing an untapped and reliable labor source If you know of an individual with a physical, intellectual or mental disability who might benefit from this program, please contact the Supported Employment office at, 762-8336, Ext. 286.
