Vance Johnson, Pioneer Technology Center’s director of safety and facilities, has been awarded the designation of Certified Safety and Health Official (CSHO). The CSHO certificate is a product of Texas A&M University.
Johnson started the certification process over four years ago and completed the program by taking over 18, week long courses in the CSHO construction track. Some of his course work included topics such as scaffold safety, excavation, fall arrest systems, industrial hygiene, electrical standards, respiratory protection, confined space, machine guards, evacuation emergency plans, construction noise, and an introduction to safety management.
"Earning the CSHO designation has been a personal goal of mine. I have been employed by Pioneer Tech for over 27 years and I am thrilled to have opportunities to continue to challenge and develop myself personally and professionally." stated Johnson. According to Johnson, the CSHO requirements are similar to those of a federal OSHA inspector. He is proud to combine the CSHO distinction with his bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma State University in trade and industry education.
Johnson is one of three Certified Safety and Health Officials in the Kay County area. He shares the designation with Darrin Johns, president of Marathon Safety Services and Ponca City firefighter, who also received his certification this year; and Richard Francis, Pioneer Tech’s safety and industry training instructor.
